Fishing
My favorite things - fishing and my wonderful fishing boat! I own a Marlin Yacht. I wrote this a few years back about my boat: During the latter part of October 1999, I was fishing off Nantucket Island. During this month there were two large storm systems that passed south of New England. These storms brought high winds, rain and mostly big seas. After waiting a few days for clearing weather my mate and I went to the Marina to the boat to go fishing. To my surprise all the boats were still tied up to the docks. What's going on? Why isn't anyone fishing? " The seas are 15 to 20 feet and only some of the big boats went out," I was told. Well it was too pretty a day to sit around so I decided to check it out for myself, and departed for Nantucket Shoals. On my way I made contact with a 53' Hatteras that was out in deep water and he told me if I got passed the shoals it was "fishable" but the waves were breaking on the shoals at 12 to 15 feet. He wasn't fooling. All I saw was white water. After saying "oh sh*#t" too many times to count we found our way thru 3 miles of some very difficult water, but we were on our way. We spoke in amazement about how the Marlin handled those seas safely, otherwise I would have turned back. On reaching our fishing spot we hooked up within 1 hour, boated our fish, and were on our way back to the Marina within 3 hours. On reaching the shoals I climbed on the back of the big waves and rode them in. This story is my tribute to the finest boat I have ever owned. I have the utmost confidence in the Marlin. The above trip was repeated the next day with the same results, I would also mention 3 boats between 26' and 32' capsized in the first day. 1600 ton Master! I try to get out fishing as much as I can! It's the best release for me.
